Strength and Unity: We Fly As One

An important marker in history, bringing together both female and male team players to unit under one guernsey, one flag, one team; The Adelaide Crows.

The Aboriginal adaptation of the crow has pride of place at the centre of the guernsey; a powerhouse of strength, the Crow is created from hands and smudged fingerprints, it represents the many (the team, the staff, the fans and more), it is the Adelaide Crows community.

In a gallant display of victory, the Crow is the hero, taking flight, each feather bold supported by fingers and hands outstretched, all reaching, striving, pushing, and fighting for the same goal: VICTORY.

Proudly adorned the Crows chest is the Kaurna shield, it symbolises strength, pride, protection, and the pursuit of competition. Standing at its side, both teams at the ready, the Aboriginal male and female symbols, coming together to support, encourage and flourish, two teams under the one insignia-flag.

The Crow is encircled by layers of many circles (different sizes, colours, and shapes), symbolic of a meeting place, coming together, a shared journey, reiterating the message of a strong community, standing together, focused on the same goal: TO CONQUER.

‘The Game’, is a sport, played on a battlefield, spears painted in the Adelaide Crows colours are placed at the top of the community circle, at the ready. The Adelaide Crows are fierce warriors, ready for battle.

A secondary Kaurna shield stands tall at the base of the abstract flight path. Within are the footprints of the many, representing the relentless, consistent, hard-working attitudes that propel the Adelaide Crows forward. The shape is reminiscent of the peace symbol (hands coming together with the bird) and the nine indigenous players, eight male and one female. They represent the shared journey of reconciliation, diversity, and inclusion. The background holds much symbolism, the blue shapes sweeping from top to bottom, represent the Adelaide Hills, the plains (community can be seen meeting) and the coastline. Within the water, echo voices of the past, they are our ancestors connecting with us, whispering messages, and are relevant today.

Located at the bottom right and left-hand corners are multicoloured concentric circles. These represent our ancestors’ wisdom. This wisdom echoes powerfully through time, just like the oceans and currents that they are featured in.

Where we come from is just as important as where we are going, the back of the guernsey is a testament to this. The feathers adorn the left and right sides of the guernsey, and the lower back; the wearer is ready to take flight, We Fly As One.

The layered fingerprints that encircle the guernsey (are different colours, sizes, and organic shapes) reiterate the messaging of the many coming together, a shared journey, uplifting each other, igniting the passion for the team and game. The spears at the top, remain at the ready.

The Kaurna shield, standing tall with the spear sends a message to those who follow; we are relentless, we seek competition, we are a tribe, and we will win. The female, male Aboriginal symbols and hand prints represent the many that make up the Adelaide Crows. The coastline continues across the lower back within the background, water is an important part of who we are as people and the trails of footprints are symbolic of the journey taken and the one that is to come.
